Journalists from Brazil visited the Drechtsteden on Tuesday, March 6th. They visited a variety of cities and companies in the Netherlands in preparation for the World Water Forum that will be held from the 18th till the 23rd of March in Brasília, the capital of Brazil. They are particularly interested in the way in which the Netherlands deals with water.
In Papendrecht, the Brazilian guests were received at the town hall by Alderman Anouk van Eekelen, member of the Drechtsteden Board. Van Eekelen told the guests how Dutch people live in the Drechtsteden, how they work on the water and what economic opportunities the water offers the region. Van Eekelen: ‘Given our location and history, this is the heart of the Dutch hydraulic engineering and maritime industry. It is nice to be able to tell and show how we deal with the water in our entrepreneurial region to the Brazilian press.’
Visitation to Boskalis
The delegation was taken to Boskalis by water taxi. They heard more about the innovative research program “Building with nature” upon arrival. Enterprises, universities and knowledge institutes (such as Ecoshape) collaborate here to find hydraulic solutions in a sustainable way.
