The Confidence Index of the Commerce Entrepreneur (Icec), measured by the National Confederation of Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC), registered, in September, an increase of 14.4% in comparison with August. It is the highest increase in the historical series of the survey, which started in April 2011.
Despite the record monthly high, the indicator reached 91.6 points on a scale of zero to 200 points, still 23.1% below the level of September last year.
According to the president of CNC, José Roberto Tadros, the expectation is that the easing of social distance measures will support the resumption of economic activity in the third quarter. “The volume of sales of commerce has grown in recent months, driven by the reopening of non-essential retail stores, which has impacted the increasingly optimistic perception of merchants,” said Tadros.
In comparison with August, there was an increase in all components of the indicator. The current conditions of the business community rose 42.1%, an advance driven mainly by the confidence component in the current moment of the economy (increase of 65.6%).
Confidence in the future
Expectations grew by 7.2%, influenced by increased confidence in the future of the economy (up 9.7%). Investment intentions, on the other hand, grew 13.1%, driven by the component of hiring employees (up 22.3%).
In the comparison with September 2019, the opposite occurred, with a drop in all components. Current conditions fell by 41.5%, with an emphasis on the 52.3% decline in the current economy.
Expectations fell 13.1%, also with an emphasis on confidence in the economy (-16.1%). Meanwhile, investment intentions fell by 21.7%, with emphasis on investments in the company (-32.3%).

Brasil: Confiança do empresário do comércio tem alta recorde em setembro
O Índice de Confiança do Empresário do Comércio (Icec), medido pela Confederação Nacional do Comércio de Bens, Serviços e Turismo (CNC), registrou, em setembro, alta de 14,4% na comparação com agosto. É a maior alta da série histórica da pesquisa, iniciada em abril de 2011.
Apesar da alta mensal recorde, o indicador chegou a 91,6 pontos em uma escala de zero a 200 pontos, ainda 23,1% abaixo do patamar de setembro do ano passado.
Segundo o presidente da CNC, José Roberto Tadros, a expectativa é que a flexibilização das medidas de distanciamento social sustente a retomada da atividade econômica no terceiro trimestre. “O volume de vendas do comércio tem apresentado crescimento nos últimos meses, impulsionado pela reabertura das lojas do varejo não essencial, o que tem impactado na percepção cada vez mais otimista dos comerciantes”, disse Tadros.
Na comparação com agosto, houve alta em todos os componentes do indicador. As condições atuais do empresariado subiram 42,1%, avanço puxado principalmente pelo componente de confiança no momento atual da economia (alta de 65,6%).
Confiança no futuro
As expectativas cresceram 7,2%, influenciadas pelo aumento da confiança no futuro da economia (alta de 9,7%). Já as intenções de investimentos cresceram 13,1%, puxadas pelo componente de contratações de funcionários (alta de 22,3%).
Já na comparação com setembro de 2019 ocorreu o oposto, com queda em todos os componentes. As condições atuais caíram 41,5%, com destaque para o recuo 52,3% no momento atual da economia.
As expectativas recuaram 13,1%, também com destaque para a confiança na economia (-16,1%). Enquanto isso, as intenções de investimentos tiveram queda de 21,7%, com destaque para os investimentos na empresa (-32,3%).
