Brazilian startups led by women have until February 7 to enroll in Women Entrepreneurship (WE), an initiative that wants to expand female entrepreneurship in the country through access to education and capital. The business can be in any stage of development, as long as it is technology based.
According to the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae), which participates in the initiative, the selected companies will receive contributions ranging from R$ 50,000 to R$ 5 million over the next five years.
Startups from all over the country can participate with technological and digital initiatives, with at least one woman as a partner. In addition to Sebrae, Microsoft Participações, Bertha Capital and Belvedere Investimentos also participate in the initiative.
In addition to the WE Fund, the partnership between the companies will be responsible for The We.Studio, which will make investments between R$ 50,000 and R$ 500,000 for women’s companies, in addition to offering training for people, businesses and technologies and technical mentoring.
Sebrae participates in the program through training content on the WE Portal, Sebrae Lab, and coworking spaces.
For Renata Malheiros, national coordinator of Female Entrepreneurship Projects at Sebrae, the program seeks to give more space to women in the market. “Women Entrepreneurship seeks to create the foundations of a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the country, in addition to providing changes in the pattern of low female participation in Brazilian startups,” she said.
Registrations
To participate, the startup must register on the website www.weventures.com.br and be approved in all stages of recruitment and selection, which include registration, video conference conversation and meetings with investors. Startups with headquarters in Brazil can compete with a minimum of 20% equity interest made up of women. More information on The We Studio portal.
