Brazil Week will work along the lines of Black Friday
With the aim of boosting the economy and stimulating domestic tourism and retail, the Brazilian government is organizing a campaign to try to boost sales in September, one of the months in which consumption in various segments traditionally tends to be lower.
Conceived by the federal government, the so-called Brazil Week will work along the lines of the event known as Black Friday, a promotional action created in the United States, where retailers from all over the country come together for every last Friday of November, a day after Thanksgiving, offer product discounts, attracting consumers.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, the government’s proposal is to engage trade associations and entities related to the tourism and services sector to offer Brazilian products at promotional prices. The Brazil Week should take place between September 6 and 15, coinciding with the celebrations of Brazil’s Independence.
More than 100 businessmen and representatives of the federal government gathered in Sao Paulo in early August to discuss promotional actions to be developed during Brazil Week. The form of participation of companies, entities and public bodies is still being defined. Among the initiatives discussed is the launch by Correios of a stamp alluding to the event, which should be included in the national calendar. To stimulate tourism, the proposal foresees that airlines and the hotel sector offer tickets and accommodation at cheaper prices.
In a statement, the National Secretary of Tourism Structuring, Robson Napier, said the campaign will help leverage domestic tourism with attractive options in various tourism services such as hotel room rates, airline tickets, travel packages, restaurants, among other actions. “We are very honored to participate in such an unprecedented campaign, including tourism as a key project to strengthen our economy,” said Napier.
Also in a note, the Secretary of Communication of the Presidency, Fabio Wanjgarten, stressed that the initiative aims to rescue and strengthen the self-esteem of the Brazilian. “President [Jair] Bolsonaro wants a moment of appreciation for Brazil, a rescue of citizen patriotism, with the largest number of entities participating in the movement. On the one hand, the federal government will support the realization and dissemination of Brazil Week. On the other hand, the private sector seizes the moment to stimulate the market and attract consumers during the period with special promotions, exclusive discounts, thematic products and services, setting of physical and virtual spaces and much more.”
