Highlight was in the trade of corn, meat and cotton
Brazilian agribusiness exports totaled US$96.8 billion last year. This represents 43.2% of the total exported by Brazil, according to the Secretariat of Trade and International Relations of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply. The data show slight growth of the sector in the total exports of the country. In 2018, this share had been 42.3%.
The highlight was the trade of corn, meat and cotton. Corn registered a record export volume, with 43.25 million tons. The previous record was set in 2017, with 29.25 million tons of cereal exported.
Also according to the ministry, China has become the main customer of Brazilian beef. The Asian country is responsible for 26.8% of the total exported volume. As a result, it surpassed Hong Kong, which is now with 18.6%.
Corn
Corn production in the 2018/2019 crop was also record, totaling 100 million tons, generating a corn export surplus of almost 20 million tons in relation to the amount exported in 2018.
On the other hand, soybeans had a reduction of almost 10 million tons in shipments, a decrease that was partially offset by sales of meat (beef, pork and chicken), corn and cotton.
Meat
Foreign sales of meat increased from US$ 14.68 billion in 2018 to US$ 16.52 billion in 2019, up 12.5%. The impact of African swine fever in several countries, especially the Chinese herd, has helped to increase Brazilian meat exports.
Beef was the main meat exported by Brazil, with US $ 7.57 billion in foreign sales in 2019 (+ 15.6%). This value is a record for the entire historical series. The export volume of beef was also record, reaching 1.85 million tons.
Cotton
The highlight of the textile sector was the increase in sales of cotton, which rose from US$1.69 billion in 2018 to US$2.64 billion in 2019 (+ 56.5%).
