At a meeting between foreign ministers of BRICS, a bloc of countries that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, Brazilian Foreign Minister Ernesto Araújo stressed that the country’s focus on the bloc’s pro tempore presidency, a function that the country holds this year will be innovation, the digital economy and the fight against international crimes such as money laundering and drug trafficking.
“This agenda that the Brazilian presidency is leading has greatly grown. These are areas where we are coming to complete projects. In the case of innovation, for example, we plan to open at the Brics Summit in November to officially launch IBrics, the Brics innovation system. There was a lot of convergence around the theme of combating terrorism, it is a priority for the five countries,” said the Brazilian minister.
Russian Federation Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov, China’s Foreign Relations, Wang Yi, South Africa’s International Relations and Cooperation Naledi Pandor, and the Deputy Minister of Road Transport of the Republic of India, Vijay Kumar Singh, attended the meeting.
Araújo also highlighted that the five countries stressed the importance of multilateral talks.
